Bible Word List and Reading Scheme

The Bible Word list gives brief explanations of words in the Authorised Version describing unfamiliar objects, animals and plants, weights, measures and money, and words no longer in everyday use, or now used with different meanings. The Daily Reading Scheme is the M'Cheyne scheme for reading through the whole Bible once in two years - The Psalms and New Testament twice -- £0.36


Definition of Terms Used

Binding Materials

Flexible Vinyl Cover. A hardwearing vinyl coated paper, producing a strong "paperback" book.

Vinyl Boards. A "hardback" binding covered with an attractively grained vinyl.

Imitation Leather PVC. A wipe-clean, very strong binding material, grained to resemble leather.

Leather-Grain Cloth. A very strong, durable cloth-based binding material with a leather grain.

Leather-Grain Cloth Boards. A "hardback" binding, covered with leather-grain cloth.

Bonded Leather. An attractive, reconstituted leather material using a predominance of leather fibre, bonded together with a strong resin.

Calfskin-Grain Leather. A very attractive Pigskin binding, grained to resemble calfskin.

French Morocco. A very soft sheep skin with an attractive grain.

Goatskin Leather Boards. A "hardback" binding covered with an attractive, fine grained leather.

Calfskin. A very strong and beautiful leather with an attractive grain.


Paper and Binding Specifications

India Paper. A very thin but strong opaque paper, reducing the bulk of the Bible.

Bible Paper. A thin lightweight paper, enabling the pages of the Bible to be turned more easily than the India paper editions.

Head and Tail Bands. A decorative band of cloth at the top and bottom of the spine to enhance the appearance of the Bible.

Semi-Yapp. The overlapping edges of the more expensive limp bindings, which bend slightly inwards to protect the page edges.

Zip. A zip-fastener is sewn onto three edges of the Bible, ensuring protection to the pages when not in use.

Coloured Edges. Edges coloured to complement the colour of the cover.

Art Gilt Edges. Coloured edges covered with gilt foil to give a burnished gold appearance.
